Raj: My hero

Hello!
I don't really have much to write as haven't really ventured out in the last two days....just been relaxing at the hostel chatting to all sorts of people. Hostel life itself is just such an amazing part of travelling. Anjila Apartments,(not Anjila Inn:-) Is just a constant flow of different nationalities. I find the life style just fascinating, especially watching Raj work. I have never met such a layed-back and chilled man and yet he some how manages to sort out rooms, book trains, pick people up from the airport, phone other hostels, book tours, order tuk tuks, cook food and chat to everyone. The only person he has helping him is a lovely guy from Nepal called Sanjos. (who barely speaks a word of English) With the constant flow of Chai teas's, beers and waters I have never seen either men write down a single thing...and yet when he produced my bill a couple of days, pretty much everything I had was accounted for. I am in awe! The night I stayed in Aurangabad ( The grumpy squatting blog) I got a call from him in my hotel room, just checking I was all right, and he then handed the phone over to a couple of the friends I had made. It was brilliant! As much as I love this lifestyle I don't know how they do it. Most people shut down at about 1-2AM....when both Raj and Sanjo's go to bed....that's if Raj isn't doing 3am airport pick ups....then up at 7am again.....and then the mad bustle for about 4 hours as everyone is heading out for the day. Day in and day out! No days off! I get tired just watching him.

Its weird when you are thrown together with such random people how you form such quick bonds. My friend Simon left for Bangkok last night to a chorus of goodbuys......only to return 2 hours later to a chorus of cheers. Apparently the flight number was never printed on his ticket so they wouldn't let him on the flight....very bizarre. So its Sunday now and everything is shut in UK so he is stuck in Mumbai till tomorrow at least....

Ok so I said I didn't have much to write but its nice to have time to just catch up on all my thoughts without the mad rush of trying to record the day.

Tonight I leave for Udaipur up north on a night bus. I met a really nice South African couple this morning who might come with me. Just waiting to see if they can get a ticket on the bus. I cant believe I have been in Mumbai area for almost a week now. Definitely time to move on!
Thanks for all the messages I have got from people, they are always nice to receive.

Ok I think I'm finished now.
Lots of love
x

  1. the midget is here and she is about to crash your blog! yay and hoorah, for the midget and the giant one are reunited over the dot com waves.
after a few days of moping around feeling the departure of the giant one had been ever so slightly premature, for 12 years in blightly was surely not enough to truely sample the great british culture, i have now settled into a way of life that revolves around constantly checking the internet for informtion about the giant one's adventures in india. it strangely seems to suit me well. So i am happy that the giant one has begun to take her giant footsteps in a new land with a sense of humour, warmth and a 'finesse' typical of the giant one, especially when it comes to her clothing! i eagerly await the next stage in the giant one's travels and photographs(!) so الوداع (thats goodbye to you. have you learnt nothing while you have been in india!?! ) and take care :O)
